Tips, Hints & FAQs
Do I need a licence?
No. At the time of going to press anyone can put on a fireworks display with any of the products from our online shop or brochures without any formal training or licence.
Do I need insurance?
Most household policies include at least £1 million of public liability insurance, but do check to make sure. Furthermore, our own products are covered by £5 million product liability insurance.
However, if you are organising a public display you will need additional liability insurance.
Do I need permission?
No. Provided your display is on private property which you have permission to use.
How can I help pay for the Display?
How about boosting your fundraising potential with sparklers and glow sticks?
If you have some willing volunteers, hot soup and hot dogs can easily be provided to warm everyone up.
How should I prepare?
We supply full instructions, firing order and equipment requirements with all our DIY packs.
We recommend you order your pack well in advance.
Ensure the delivery date is no less than 14 days before your display.
On arrival, check its contents and plan your display prior to firing.
On the day, set out the display, preferably in daylight. Keep everything well protected from wet weather by covering with bin liners and stand by to impress your guests!
Is it safe?
All our DIY fireworks conform to the specifications of the British Standard BS 7114, which requires fireworks to be quality tested prior to sale, to have adequate delay fuses prior to ignition, and to have labels with clear descriptions, warnings and instructions.
What about transport of fireworks?
You can carry up to 50kg of fireworks in your car or van without any restrictions.
What if it rains?
Provided you have kept your fireworks dry, by placing them in plastic bags when you set them up, this shouldn't be a problem. Make sure you remove the bags before firing!
However, windy conditions can make firing a display hazardous and we would advise not to go ahead if it is any more than breezy.
When can I fire my show?
You can fire your display on any day of the week at any time between the hours of 7am and 11pm with the following exemptions
- on Bonfire Night, November 5th, you can fire up to midnight
- on Diwali and Chinese New Year you can fire up to 1am
- on New Year's Eve you can fire up to 1am in the morning
Please be considerate towards your neighbours - especially the elderly and those with young children and animals. If you can, avoid letting your fireworks off after 10pm.
Fireworks Regulations 2004
Where can I fire my show?
Choose an area clear of buildings, sheds, vehicles, trees and overhead power cables where you have at least 25 metres (50 metres if you can) between spectators and fireworks and a fall-out zone at the rear of the firing site where rocket sticks and debris can fall harmlessly. Make sure you have permission to use the land.
Who should I notify?
We always advise that you inform the police, fire brigade, your neighbours and nearby owners of pets and farm animals of the date, place and time of the display. If you are near an airport or the sea, you should also inform the Civil Aviation Authority and/or the coastguard.
